Death of Acrylic, Rise of the Shellac

Living in South West London (I like to think of it as the centre of the universe) it seems there is always a new place to visit with bars, restaurants, galleries etc opening all the time.

Just before Christmas Cherished Nails - a new nail bar opened just across the road from my flat (handy). With an attractive 50% off offer on all treatments I was a typical girl and was instantly drawn in. With a number of treatments to choose from I opted for the ever so popular Shellac gel.

I chose my colour - black! I know I am so boring, but I think a dark nail colour really looks smart. The Shellac simply paints on like a polish - base coat, colour and top coat and is then cured with a UV light.

I am really impressed with the finish - a really natural shiny look. The best part of the gel was there wasn't even any drying time, which is perfect, as I can't keep my hands still for more than two minutes!

My Shellac lasted for almost three weeks and by the end of it my nails had grown loads. I did have the colour removed after at nail bar, which was as simple as putting my nail in acetone for about five minutes! I had a quick buff and my nails were still looking as strong and healthy as they were before. The ladies in Cherished Nails are also lovely and really keen to impress. I have recommended this place to a few of my friends and they have all received a special 'friend of Rachel discount'.

I am definitely a Shellac convert (can't wait to have them done again), and it got me thinking about Acrylic nails. I used to have pink and white tips done on a regular basis, but since trying out this new gel I don't think I will ever go back! Acrylic seems sooooo outdated and looks really fake. Now I know the 'fake' look is supposed to be in - especially with the buzz of TOWIE, but when you compare the two, Shellac is much smarter looking, less painful and doesn't chip.

Saying this, I have seen some pretty impressive nail art on acrylic nails recently, with quite a few of my friends having the glitter tips for the party season! I thought this design was quite fun and funky looking...

Anyways if you fancy trying out this revolutionary gel, then visit my little friends over at Cherished Nails www.cherishednails.co.uk.

I am hoping to try the Spa Pedicure next.

Much love,
